Tooth whitening

Teeth whitening is an amazing procedure which can benefit almost anyone with healthy teeth who would like a whiter, attractive and more confident smile. At JM Dental , we carefully assess your teeth first and recommend the optimum whitening protocols for each client. We only use the very best materials for our whitening treatments!

We offer two levels of service for tooth whitening:

1/  Home Whitening:    £250.    Simple,safe and effective.   We take accurate moulds of your teeth and make a close fitting tray that fits over your teeth.  We show you how to apply the whitening gel safely.  An hour a day of wearing this will lighten most people’s teeth considerably in one to two weeks. 

2/  Enlighten Evolution Whitening:  £600.  Simply the best way to whiten your teeth ( but it does take longer! )  .   Two weeks wearing trays at home all night using a gentle whitening agent conditions your teeth for the next step, which is a one hour power bleaching treatment in our dental surgery.  This is followed by another week of whitening at home to give you the best effect.

FAQ and some facts about tooth whitening:

How long does it last?   ALL tooth whitening systems need some maintenance after the basic treatment is complete.  For most people, that maintenance might be placing your home whitening tray and gel back onto your teeth for perhaps one hour every two weeks.  Be wary of advertising that claims the whitening effects last for years because in our experience of many tooth whitening systems over 15 years, it simply is not true.  A simple maintenance of wearing the tray occasionally will help you maintain your lovely white smile !!

Is it Safe?   When done correctly – yes !   It is important that a dentist examines your teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy first. If your gums are unhealthy or you have cavities in your teeth we will advise you not to have tooth whitening until these problems are solved.  At our practice a short examination enables us to ascertain your basic health.   Most people also benefit from seeing their hygienist just before commencing tooth whitening to remove any tartar or staining.  If we feel we need to take x rays of your teeth we may ask you to book for a more thorough examination before deciding the best way of tooth whitening for you.

Can I buy cheaper products online ?  Certainly . In fact tooth whitening is becoming so popular that you can get it done at hair dressers, mobile tooth whitening services and by ‘do it yourself’ products online.  In our view there are serious problems with this but you have to make those judgements yourself !    We believe it pays off to have proper advice, proper techniques and materials backed up by an experienced team, just as you take care over who looks after your hair etc!

Will whitening work for me?   Tooth whitening will only whiten natural teeth. It will not effect crowns, veneers, fillings or dentures.  A simple assessment will help us to advise you.
